We kicked off our 2010 contest year in neighboring Arizona at a first-year contest next to the river and the landmark London Bridge. This would be a warmup after being idle since last October when the season ended. It was great to see our BBQ buddies again.

It felt good to stretch and test out our new and improved 2010 recipes. Our chicken came in 5th which was great considering we’ve been in the funk in this category. With 21st place Ribs, 31st place Pork, and 20th place brisket, we ended up 10th amid a field of 71 teams. Not too bad considering our pork and brisket recipes were new and needed some debugging. We should be in fighting shape for our next contest which has a record $100,000 total prize money at the Smoke on the Water event in Little Rock, AK, coming up on March 20th.
We had long lines of fans!
Johnny Triggs was also there, and he took RGC. Our fellow competitors and friends Kelly and Roni from Four Legs Up from Kansas City took GC. My paduan Gary Notley took 1st in Pork. Well done. The crowds really mobbed Johnny and us due to the popularity of the Pitmasters TV show. At times, we had a line of people waiting to snap photos with us. It was great to see such interest in BBQ and Johnny told me it was like this everywhere since he’s cooked four contests already this year.
