So. Cal. Q-Fest Feb 11, 2012, Awards Ceremony
Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ made a repeat appearance as California’s top Team of the Year for a second year in a row. Teams who won in 2011 were honored at the annual QFest awards ceremony held at the panoramic East Shore RV Park by Puddingstone Lake in San Dimas, CA. SYD’s four-year journey began in 2008 when we won the CBBQA Best New Team and Rookie of the Year ROY. Amazing in 2011, we also won the Arizona TOY for the second year in a row showing that SYD has proven to be consistently one of the top teams in the West.
Every year, Dan Cannon, California’s own BBQ Hall of Fame member and the CBBQA host this weekend long celebration which is attended by many members coming from all over the state. On Saturday, everyone enjoyed an awesome potluck made by some the best pitmasters in California.
The awards were conducted right after under the specter of rain clouds. Kelleigh Strobel of Kristies Foundation, a charity for terminally ill children, received a check for $2,000 from the CBBQA. Members of the California Hall of Fame inducted their newest member, 2011 CBBQA President, Larry Hill.
I’m looking forward to 2012 and will be doing mostly solo cooks now that I’m using one WSM in my quest for a less-is-more approach to BBQ.
Congratulations go out to all the winners and to Adam Hollman of Huminie’s Hogalicious BBQ from Gilroy, for his hard-earned title of 2011 Rookie Team of the Year. This was probably one of the toughest rookie races as rookies took four of the top ten spots in California. Congratulations to all of the teams who competed this year!
