A beautiful $10,000 Harley Nightster was up for grabs for the total points winner for the 1st Annual Chester’s Harley BBQ and Bikes at the Chester’s Harley store in Mesa, Arizona, on March 24, 2012.
29 teams showed up for this throwdown which attracted teams from Utah, California, Iowa, and Kansas who were en route to the $50K ACM BBQ Championship at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas the week after. On day one and two, True Bud and Pig Skin BBQ (of Swine Assassins), both from the Iowa and Kansas region took turns at RC and GC. When the dust settled on day two, Pig Skin BBQ won by a scant 2.2854 points (from 1,367 to 1,365) to take home the Harley.
SYD’s winning streak of four GCs the last four events ended when we finished 4th overall with a total of 1,338 points. We had a great time thanks to Tommy Duncan’s excellent crew and got to enjoy the spectacle of thousands of Harleys marooning the BBQ teams into a little fenced off island.
Our continuing efforts to use only one WSM and one bag of Kingsford for each contest is working out as most of the choreographed ballet steps trying to cook four meats on one pit have been worked out. A big thank you goes out to our sponsors Impact Canopies for our fabulous color canopies, Cajun Bandit for their aftermarket Weber products, and Rocks BBQ for their Stoker pit control systems.
